Hello and welcome back to the Sweet River’s, candy blog! We’re happy to have you here. :) This week, we’re thinking all about some of our favorite songs involving sweets and candy. There are SO many songs that reference candy out there–but, in our mind, there are really a only a few, stand-out classics. SO…we’re sharing our top ten, favorite songs about sweets today! They are in no, particular, order. (We couldn’t rate ’em, even if we tried really hard.) We are curious though–did we miss anything!? What do you think? Let us know in the comments here, or over on our Facebook page!

I Want Candy — The Strangeloves (1965)

Yes, this is the original. Bow Wow Wow remade it in 1982, and her version was featured in the movie, Napoleon Dynamite. But, The Strangeloves made the song famous.

On the Good Ship Lollipop — Shirley Temple (1934)

I think we all know the song–but, have you seen the movie, Bright Eyes? (Or, even this clip?)

A Munchkin Welcome — The Wizard of Oz (1939)

This song might not be exactly about candy…but, the Lollipop Guild were the band of munchkins who welcomed Dorothy to Oz–so, it makes the cut.

Sugar, Sugar — The Archie’s (1969)

You’ve heard the song a million times–but, did you know the song was sung by an animated band?

Lollipop — Chordettes (1958)

Bobby Vee covered this song in 1961–so, you may be more familiar with that version. This one though, well, this is the original. (Complete with man who ‘mouth pops’.)

The Candy Man Can — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

Sammy Davis Jr. brought this song to the airwaves a few years after the movie–but, this is the version that gets us every time. (It’s strictly the fact that it’s shot in a candy store. :) )

Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows — Lesley Gore (1963)

This song might not be all about candy–but, it feels like candy. (If that makes any sense.)

Sweets for my Sweet — The Drifters (1961)

We love everything about this sweet song. :)

Candy — Mandy Moore (1999)

All right–this song has ONLY been thrown into the mix because I’m a 90’s teen and this song was so cool. I wanted all of the fashion, and hair, and technology. There is SO much 90’s, and early 2000’s, goodness in here.

Pure Imagination — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)

This song is ALL about the visuals. This is the only place I ever wanted to be as a child. (And, who am I kidding, also as an adult…)

**Bonus Tracks**

The Gummy Bear Song (2015)

We’re REALLY sorry for this one. Really. (Also, this video has been watched nearly 1 billion times. What is wrong with humanity these days?)

If all the Raindrops — Barney (1993)

We’re sorry about this one too–though, not AS sorry as we are about the gummy bear song. :) This song is cute at least. Kinda.
